SUMMARY:SFVQA Birthday Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Come to the Ice Cream Social in May!  It will be a night of socializing and fun \nWe’ll celebrate the election of new board members\, thank the outgoing board for their service\, and commemorate the Association’s 32nd anniversary.   Frances (our April speaker) is bringing her Red Cross teddy bear project for us to help with.   At this meeting\, we’ll have a chance to take stock of where the Association is and where it is going. You’ll be encouraged to give input on future lectures and workshops\, as well as giving suggestions for fundraising\, ways to increase membership\, and what we can do to stay within our budget. Come with ideas and suggestions and be ready to party!\n

SUMMARY:Lecture:  April Sproule\, "Making Your Mark with Textiles"
DESCRIPTION:April Sproule is an artist who loves to work with textiles.  With a strong background in design\, sewing\, and quilting\, she has been a full-time award-winning studio artist at Sproule Studios for many years.  In her workshops\, she has a knack for making even the most difficult tasks seem simple as she leads students through a progression of techniques for painting and embellishing textiles.  She shares her personal treasure trove of sewing and design skills while strongly encouraging participants to develop their own unique creative style.  Through her exuberant and supportive teaching style\, your sewing repertoire will be elevated to a new level.  In her lecture\, April presents ways to develop and add interest to textile art.  Creativity can greatly enhance life.  She shows that you can wear your art\, carry things in it or let it grace your home with beauty.  Her lecture will include a collection of upcycled wearable art\, art tech satchels\, and block printed work. \n

The family moved from Missouri to California in the mid 1930’s and ended up in a small town in the bay area\, Albany. \nBetty came from a family of quilters. Her mother sent fabric scraps leftover from the clothes she made for the six kids back east to her grandmother in Oklahoma. Her grandmother hand pieced the scraps to make quilt tops and sent them back to California for Betty’s mother to quilt. \nBetty started making her own quilts in 1987.  She retired from Budweiser in 1995 and quilting became her life.  She joined the SCVQG (Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild) in 1995 and was a member about 10 years.
