Lecture: Robin Ruth, “Modern Mariner’s Compass, Strip Pieced!”

Her interest in Mariner Compasses began in 1992 when her husband became a Naval Officer in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She wanted to celebrate with a Mariner Compass quilt and discovered a better way than paper piecing. Her approach to the famously complicated compass block is surprisingly simple. But also, her unique aesthetic sing bright fabrics (Including Kaffe Fasset fabric lines) yield novel and unique quilts.
Robin Ruth’s quilts are a testament to her skill and dedication to her craft. Her Mariner’s Compass designs are particularly renowned for their intricate detail and precision. She recently was the featured quilter at the 2025 Washington State Quilters Quilt Show and was featured in the December 1029 Love of Quilting magazine. Robin continues to inspire and educate quilters of all levels, encouraging creativity and innovation in their work and offering fresh perspectives on traditional techniques.
