Lecture: Jon Russikoff, “Schlepping into Quiltism: A Life Oddly Led”

Jon is a Los Angeles–based designer, quilt artist, and creative entrepreneur whose work blends midcentury modern geometry with the playful optimism of Googie architecture (think mid-century futurist design style inspired by car culture, the Atomic Age, and space exploration, like upswept roofs, curvilinear, geometric shapes, and bold use of glass, steel and neon signs).  He is the founder of Quiltillion, a vibrant design studio and quilt shop in Granada Hills creating quilt inspired, visual storytelling pieces that celebrate community, color, and the sunny spirit of mid-century modern Southern California.

Before launching Quiltillion, Jon built two acclaimed culinary themed ventures: The Dessert Show, an immersive theatrical sweets experience, and Chocolateria, a boutique chocolate concept known for inventive flavor design and bold visual branding. These projects shaped his signature approach — transforming everyday moments into joyful, design driven experiences through bold palettes, tactile textures, and narrative detail.

Today, Jon’s work continues to merge craftsmanship with storytelling, drawing from quilting traditions, midcentury aesthetics, and the cultural history of Granada Hills. His creative practice spans product design, visual branding, and community centered art that radiates warmth, connection, and unmistakable California flair.
