Lecture: Patricia Belyea, “The Alluring World of Yukata Quilts”
November 13 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm PST
Patricia and her daughter Victoria co-own Okan Arts. They were mesmerized by the beauty of Japanese textiles. Their business imports vintage textiles from Japan and runs an on-line gallery representing national quilters. Patricia loves the thrill of cutting up fabric and sewing it back together. Her favorite fabrics are found objects, particularly vintage Japanese yukata cottons. She now focuses on adding curves to her quilt compositions. In her lecture, Patricia takes us on an insider tour of the 2020 Tokyo quilt festival and to a traditional chosen-dyeing workshop to explain the hand dyeing process. She finishes the lecture with a trunk show of her own quilts made with vintage Japanese cotton.
