Tim Brown of Kingdom Sewing Machine Center in Simi Valley is teaching a basic Featherweight maintenance workshop.
Tim bought Kingdom Sewing in Northridge back in the 80’s when they sold mainly vacuums, but he started to sell more sewing machines than vacuums which is still the case today. He opened the second store in Simi Valley about 20 years ago. He has since sold the original Northridge store to an employee several years ago and now devotes his time just to the Simi Valley store, selling machines, sewing furniture, offering classes, and going to shows to promote his business.
An employee, Dick Hodnefield, worked on the Featherweights people brought into the shop and started to teach Tim about them. In addition, Tim started getting some Featherweights as trade ins, which further piqued his interest in them. Dick no longer works there, but Tim continues to collect and repair Featherweights and owns about 20 of them. He’s primarily interested in models made before World War II.
About ten years ago Tim gave a seminar to the Modern Quilt Guild and continues to give maintenance workshops in his shop and other sites. He’s a member of the Featherweightology group on Facebook, which is a good source for all things Featherweight.
For this workshop, you will bring your own Featherweight to work on in class. Enrollment limit: 18
